Amateur Digital Modes - Something for Everyone

No matter what aspects of the amateur radio hobby are of interest, there is a digital mode for you! This presentation will cover some of the popular modes used on the ham bands for on-air activities: including emergency & event communications, e-mail, DIY projects, DXing, antenna modeling, satellites, moon-bounce, meteor-scatter, television, and other data transfer methods.

Northern Utah WebSDR

The Northern Utah WebSDR hams have turned a large HF antenna station near Corinne Utah into a Web based Software Defined Radio that anyone can tune in and listen to Amateur Radio Signals across HF and other bands. This session will cover the concepts, technology used, and how you can tune in using only a web browser and speakers.

APRS is the Automatic Packet Reporting System. This session will cover the hardware and software options available for use in the vehicle, and access via computer or on your smartphone. Utah and the surrounding states have lots of APRS Digipeaters and i-Gates. Learn how to get started in this fun part of Amateur Radio.

Computer- to Radio Interface Engineering

Interfacing computers to radio transceivers is getting easier and less expensive. Gary will Share some basic concepts involved in such electrical interfacing and then cover some software engineering examples such as using the Python, C, C++ and Linux shell programming languages.

Packet radio has been around for a long time, and has seen a resurgence of interest with the Winlink worldwide radio email service. This presentation will cover the hardware used to setup a packet station. We will cover the previous generation hardware as well as some exciting new options, including the TNC-Pi9K6.

SSTV With The ISS

Slow Scan TV is alive and well aboard the International Space Station. Several times a year the ISS Hams will send images over SSTV. This presentation will get you started with the gear and software needed to decode the messages. This is a great activity for youth or school groups get introduced into Amateur Radio.
